Autobahn

This collaborative project involved traveling by car from Amsterdam to Berlin in the summer of 2023 and making  plein air paintings along the highway. 

Afterwards we all created new work that our own perspective incorporating the highway (“Autobahn” in German). 

In this series of painting I represent the highway as a place that confronts us with the duality of freedom and restriction. The paintings depict people who try to escape the routine and expectations of society. I juxtapose these figurative scenes with still-life paintings of objects that signal a break or a crash of what’s to come.
